Professor of Communication and Culture, Geoffrey Bird, is project lead of the War Heritage Research Initiative. The project is dedicated to providing learning resources on Canada’s war heritage. Bird, an avid researcher, communicator and film maker, has produced 35 documentaries, exploring Canada’s experience in the First and Second World Wars including: Ways we Remember War, Brooding Soldier Memorial and Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Talles Pole in the World.
Bird’s latest project, set for release in September 2026, explores the history of Royal Roads University Military College. The film is fully funded by donations, including support from the Military Heritage Fund and the Royal Military College of Canada.
Bird recently released a preview of “Enduring Duty: The History of Royal Roads University Military College” in anticipation of next year’s film release.
Donor-funded projects, like Bird’s work, can help preserve history and share stories of the past. Lest we forget.
This Giving Day, Nov. 26–27, join us for 36 hours of giving to support Royal Roads students where they need it most. Whether you choose the Military Heritage Fund or another fund close to your heart, your gift—of any amount—helps create brighter opportunities for the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
